With a wealth of job opportunities and excellent starting salaries, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse, or LPN, in Salt Lake City is a wise choice today. However, before you can get licensed as a practical nurse in Utah, like in other states, you must complete a training program approved by the state. There are several of them available here, and some of the best ones are described below.

1. Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College - When Oden-Weber Applied Technology College (OWATC) began operating in 1971, it was known simply as the Skills Center North. This is a two-year institution that is located on North Washington Boulevard in Ogden, which is a short drive from Salt Lake City. Starting with an enrollment of only 100 students, OWATC serves more than 10,000 students each year today. For students who are interested in nursing careers, OWATC offers a terrific practical nursing program. This is a rigorous program that typically takes full-time students about nine months to complete. Graduates of OWATC's LPN program can go on to take their NCLEX-PN licensing exams or work towards an associate degree in nursing.
2. Bridgerland Applied Technology College - Just off of Interstate 91 in nearby Logan, you will find Bridgerland Applied Technology College (BATC). Founded in 1971, BATC offers a broad range of career programs in many different fields of study. Within the school's health and dental department, there is a top-rated licensed practical nursing program. The LPN program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and approved by the Utah Board of Nursing. Full-time students who enroll in BATC's practical nurse program can graduate within just two semesters, after which they can sit for the NCLEX-PN licensing examination.
3. Snow College - Snow College (SC) is a four-year facility situated on East College Avenue in Ephraim just a short distance away from Salt Lake City. Originally known as Sanpete Stake Academy, SC has been training students for productive careers since 1888. Its name was changed to Snow College in 1923 in honor of its founders, Erastus and Lorenzo Snow. Although Snow College is mainly known for its excellent music programs, it also offers a large variety of programs in other fields. Among its allied health program offerings, there is a great LPN program. This is a highly competitive program, which accepts only 30 students each year. If you wish to attend Snow College's LPN program, you need to apply several months in advance of your desired enrollment date.
4. College of Eastern Utah - If you do not mind traveling a bit for your LPN education, you may want to consider attending the College of Eastern Utah (CEU). CEU is a satellite college of Utah State University and can be found on East 400 Highway North in Price, Utah. This school was founded in 1888, and today it offers more than 100 certificate, associate degree and bachelor's degree programs. In addition to RN and CNA programs, the school offers a fantastic LPN program. If you wish to attend CEU's LPN program, you need to apply to USU before January 1st of the year you wish to attend in. Upon acceptance into USU, you need to apply for enrollment into CEU's LPN program before March 1st of the same year.
